The Silloth Steps

Description

The stepped promenade in Silloth was originally a well-built structure, but its current concrete form is a result of the sea-wall construction and reconstruction in the 1950s and 1980s. The original wooden sea-wall, which was built after the town's boom in the mid-19th century alongside the new docks and railway, was washed away in 1959, leading to the construction of the new concrete sea-wall. Further reconstruction work on the promenade was also carried out in 1982.
